MATRADE Has No Contractual Obligations Over Contracts Signed by HW Lima with Third Parties

In July 2020, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has officially announced the postponement of the 17th edition of Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw movement restrictions imposed around the world. Such a difficult decision was made after taking into account the safety of Malaysian and foreign companies participating in the exhibition.

HW Lima Sdn. Bhd. (“HW Lima”) was appointed by MATRADE as the event organiser to manage MIHAS from the year 2017 to 2020. It is important to note that MATRADE has discharged this particular obligation based on its rights stipulated in the Service Agreement signed between MATRADE and HW Lima. MATRADE wishes to clarify that it has no contractual obligations over contracts signed by HW Lima with third parties including those contracts inked with exhibitors and sponsors.

The refund of payment over participation in MIHAS 2020 is entirely under the prerogative of HW Lima, as it is clearly outlined in Terms and Conditions of the Official Space Application Form. In the perspective to ease the burden of affected exhibitors and sponsors, MATRADE has expressed its hope for a consideration of full refund of payment made by communicating via official channel with HW Lima to ensure that all the processes are being executed well and in line with all legal commitments the company has made with the exhibitors. However, the decision is entirely with HW Lima. MATRADE, therefore, urges all exhibitors and sponsors to contact HW Lima via the contact details stated in their agreement signed with the company, to seek updates on their refund requests.

In the next five years, starting this year, MATRADE is pleased to inform that it has appointed Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd as the new event organiser for this exhibition.

MATRADE remains steadfast to host an effective halal trade show to bring together world industry players, academicians, technology providers and all others involved in this multitrillion industry under one roof through MIHAS. We would also like to record our utmost gratitude and thanks to all exhibitors, sponsors, strategic partners and buyers from all around the world for their continued support and we look forward to seeing you at the 17th edition of MIHAS scheduled from 9 – 12 September 2021.
