Export Opportunities in Myanmar

Myanmar is an emerging market with a population of 56 million and is Malaysia’s seventh largest export destination among the ASEAN countries. In 2022, Malaysia recorded the largest trade performance with Myanmar since 2013, with total trade valued at USD1.68 billion. Malaysia’s exports with Myanmar also increased by 118 percent due to the increased demand for petroleum, iron and steel products, chemicals and chemical products, palm oil and palm-oil based agriculture products, and processed foods.

Potential sectors for export for Malaysian exporters include palm oil, medical, manufactures of metal, electrical and electronic products, machinery, equipment and parts, rubber products, iron and steel products, food and services. For the food sector, potential products for export are processed food products, sauces and pastes, frozen foods, instant food and snacks, instant beverages and palm cooking oil.

Malaysia is a key import destination for Myanmar as Malaysia offers a diverse range of high-quality products and services with good manufacturing practices and compliance to international standards. Besides that, Malaysia has a friendly business environment, professional business culture, pro-business government policies, reliable suppliers, transparent and fair-trading regulations, excellent track record as a trading nation and well-developed trade support facilities.
